Roger Desy
art for the poem

— can you do the art for the poem? — techniques

practiced to second nature — genius is a detail

— what i'd like would look like deer and not like deer
at the same time — too much like deer it will

seem obvious — too pat — quaint — part of a setting

— too unlike deer — disoriented — body parts
tangled in glare no one will recognize

too easily seen and unseen at the same time

— but if it's what it should be — they'll look on it
with clear uncertainty — aloof yet intimate — invited

if not sure how to follow in the distance
of their movement stirring snow across the squalls

of fields trespassing into windbreak shadow

to lose it and be lost in their routine — when gone
